The two companies have been at odds since the day the acquisition was announced back in May.
Microsoft’s CEO Satya Nadella, in a memo sent out on Wednesday, called Digital Foundries’ technology “a key part of our long-term strategy for delivering a world-class cloud-based computing platform.”
Microsoft’s new CEO, Satya Saran, and Digital Foundrys founder Alex Lutz are scheduled to speak at Microsoft’s annual Build conference on March 3.
“I’m pleased to announce that we have acquired Digital Foundrisks new technology business, Digital Foundrks.
We look forward to working with Alex and Alex’s team as we continue our exploration of cloud computing,” Saran wrote.
The Digital Foundrums were acquired by Microsoft in April 2017 for $9.2 billion in cash and $3.8 billion in stock.
The acquisition is notable in that it is the first time Microsoft has acquired a mobile operating systems and gaming software company in the past year.
Microsoft’s previous acquisition of developer Tencent Games in August 2018 also included a significant deal for its mobile platform.
Digital Foundries was founded in 2013 by two engineers from Microsoft, Adam Molnar and Chris Molnars, after Microsoft acquired the startup.
The founders said they decided to create a company to offer a platform for creating and developing apps for mobile devices.
“Our vision is to create apps that are easy to learn, easy to use, and easy to share,” Molnarov said in a blog post announcing the deal.
“We will bring the power of Microsoft and Microsoft-owned software to the mobile device market.
We believe that mobile devices are one of the greatest untapped markets in the world.
We are excited about the opportunities and opportunity that this combination offers for developers.”
Digital Foundrys products include the XBox app, the Windows 10 app, and the Xbox Games app.
Digital foundries was initially focused on creating and selling apps for smartphones and tablets, but its focus shifted to mobile in 2018, when it was acquired by Tencent for $1.9 billion.
In the past three years, Digital foundries has focused on building its mobile business with a new platform, the X-Box app.
