Microsoft, Twitter and Google have announced a plan for a global internet., which they say will bring together governments, ISPs and internet companies.
They will be hosting a conference at the end of March to “explore and discuss the possibilities of the Internet.org network and how it could improve internet access around the world”, said Microsoft.
Facebook has also announced it will be launching a website called Internet.
This will offer a toolkit for governments to create internet governance networks.
Google said the plan will be used by countries and countries’ governments to coordinate and monitor the internet, and to promote a more open internet.
“The plan will work in parallel with the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C), a group of international organisations working to establish a common, open, and interoperable web that enables people and businesses to access the internet without censorship,” it said.
“It will help countries understand how to move forward on building new, open standards, how to work together to protect the privacy of online users, and how to develop and promote the best-in-class technologies to deliver internet access and economic growth.”
The Internet.ORG network will also offer governments the ability to manage their own internet access services, improve security for the web, and create a global open, interoperable, and decentralized internet.”
Microsoft and Google say the plan for the Internet will create a platform for governments and corporations to share information, but not block it.
We are creating an open, interconnected, and secure internet that is accessible by the millions of people around the globe. “
The Internet is the future.
We are creating an open, interconnected, and secure internet that is accessible by the millions of people around the globe.
We will be working closely with governments, business leaders, and other leaders to develop the plan to make this vision a reality.”
We will work with our partners to work with the world’s leading internet service providers, governments, and non-profit organisations to create the most open and secure Internet.
Our vision is to create a world that works for everyone, and where the internet thrives for everyone. “
As part of this effort, we will also build a global platform for the development and use of the new technologies and infrastructure needed to ensure this vision becomes a reality.”
“Our vision is to create a world that works for everyone, and where the internet thrives for everyone.
We’re excited to be part of that effort, and look forward to a great time,” said Twitter.
Org is expected to be launched by the end, or spring, of this year.
It is not clear yet if the plan is going to be a part of the upcoming UN climate change summit in Copenhagen.
Google has also said it is working on plans to help other countries.
“We have long believed that the Internet has the potential to make a huge difference to people’s lives and that we should work together with the governments of countries around the World to make sure it’s a reality,” said Google.
